Tired of losing that favorite lure to the rocks, trees, and other hazards lurking nearby?
|
The Ultimate SmartLink Lure System, designed and manufactured by The Ultimate Companies of Bristol, CT, was introduced
to anglers worldwide in 2001. This innovative product hit the road running, as it won the American Sportfishing Association’s
(ASA) Best in Category Award for terminal tackle at ICAST that year. The SmartLink was a hit! Since then, Jimmy Houston,
Paul Elias, Don Yeager, and Johnny Johnson are among the many pros who have found that the SmartLink not only instantly
saves lures, but saves time in quick hook changes, fast blade changes, and less re-tying! What’s more is that they are reusable! A
small investment brings big returns!
The Ultimate SmartLink is constructed from a super flexible shape memory titanium alloy, and replaces the split ring between the
lure and the hook. When fighting a fish, the SmartLink will behave just like a normal split ring. However, should you get hung up
on weeds, trees, or rocks, the SmartLink is a lure saver! When the rod tip is pointed directly at a snag and steady pulling pressure
is applied, the SmartLink will open and release the snagged hook. It will immediately snap back to its original shape, still on the
lure - ready to be used over and over. The SmartLink will not release when fighting or hooking a fish.
The most common question anglers ask us is, "If the SmartLink™ Lure System will release a snag, what prevents it from
releasing when a fish is on the line?"
The answer is simple: Your rod won't allow it.
All fishing rods produce surprisingly little force at the hook because the
rod acts as a giant shock absorber. As long as you obey the golden rule of
angling and never point your rod tip at the fish, the rod will not generate
enough force to cause the SmartLink to release. The only way a
SmartLink will release is if you point your rod tip directly at the snag, reel
in all slack, thumb the spool, (face away from snag) and pull steadily
without jerking. It is that easy! Instant release, no spooking your fish or
disturbing the area, and no re-tying! All you lose is the hook! The
SmartLink remains on your lure and is reusable, so just add a new hook to
that saved, favorite lure and you’re right back in the water ready to land that hungry lunker!
To ensure optimum results, Ultimate SmartLinks are available in a variety of sizes to match the rating of your rod weight and line
test. Fishing rods are rated by how stiff they are: the higher the rating, the stiffer the rod. By following the SmartLink Selection
Guide your rod, line and SmartLink will act as a team, landing fish when they bite and freeing lures when they snag.

Mike Brault, General Manager of
Ultimate NiTi Technologies, the
division responsible for design
and development of the Ultimate
SmartLink demonstrates that
even when flexed to their
maximum, all rods produce very
little force at the hook
NOTE: The Ultimate SmartLink is not recommended for anglers who prefer heavy-action rods with light lines.
